Family Self-Sufficiency Program
This program provides a range of resources
and opportunities that lead to increased self-reliance, personal
growth and success for families living in subsidized
housing in the Victoria Capital Regional District.
Previous phases of the program have improved the
lives of many families. For example, in the last phase of the
program from 2008 – 2011, nine families moved out of
subsidized housing, with one achieving home ownership.
The program offers participants:
-
Opportunities to build savings;
-
Family Advisor to work one-on-one with each participant family;
-
Goals and action plans co-developed by participants and advisors;
-
Educational and community-building meetings;
-
Financial exploration and budgeting sessions;
-
Community input through an Advisory Committee;
-
Networking and community connections.
The
Burnside
Gorge Community Association
runs the Family Self-Sufficiency program alongside a
number of program supporters, funders, and community partners.
Funding is provided by BC Housing, through the Ministry
Responsible for Housing,
United Way of Greater Victoria,
TD Financial Literacy Grant
Fund/SEDI
and
