Leadership competencies

If you are responsible for supervising or managing other people, you are required to display sound leadership competencies. The following three leadership competencies were defined by the BC Housing executive committee: Alignment & Results, Relationship Building, and Team Development. Individual proficiencies in leadership competencies determine fit for a leadership role.

Alignment & Results
Our leaders establish high standards for the service we provide and our accountability for ourselves and our people. We make sound decisions by managing our resources with a high degree of accountability. We foster a culture to support continuous service improvement. Our leaders inspire and influence others to create a shared vision and mission for BC Housing. We think strategically and continuously use every opportunity to link our vision to daily work. We take into account external factors and internal resources, and incorporate these into the decision making process for our long term goals.

Relationship Building
Our leaders actively seek to create and maintain positive relationships with staff and our stakeholders. This is a critical success factor for BC Housing. We value and cultivate "good will" in our internal and external network of contacts. Our leaders value the input, expertise, and collaboration opportunities these relationships provide. We are accountable for our perceptions and behaviours and are sensitive to the impact they have on others.

Team Development
Our leaders are committed to providing support and resources for individuals to improve their skills and effectiveness in providing quality services and programs. We recognize the strengths in our people and build upon their strengths to achieve or exceed the goals of BC Housing. We foster an understanding of responsibility and accountability in people and support them through learning and development opportunities. As leaders we support taking calculated risks and support our staff in being confident in their abilities and contributions.
