Current Project: Little Mountain

Little Mountain was Vancouver's oldest public housing development. Redevelopment of the site, a 15-acre property located next to Queen Elizabeth Park, was agreed upon by the City of Vancouver and BC Housing in a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2007.

Why redevelop?
These were aging buildings on under-utilized land. Redevelopment provides a number of significant opportunities. Working in partnership with the private and non-profit sectors, the vision is to create new, safe, accessible housing, with a mix of subsidized and market housing, along with community facilities and other neighbourhood amenities. Proceeds from this redevelopment are being reinvested into new social housing in Vancouver and elsewhere in the province. This includes the partnership in Vancouver to develop more than 1,500 new housing units at 14 city-owned sites.

Partnerships
BC Housing and the City of Vancouver are partnering with developer Holborn Properties to redevelop the site, replacing 224 public housing units with at least 234 new subsidized housing units.

Residents
The relocation of residents was conducted using the Guiding Principles for Resident Relocation. These principles guarantee that residents have first choice to return to Little Mountain once the redevelopment is completed.
